Jesus, Joe, and Christian Hypocrisy

It seems that Jesus, but not Joseph Smith, is permitted by Christians to get away with False Prophecies.

The way Christians would have it, no other sacred cows, except their sacred cows, are allowed to make false prophecies without being crucified. What Christians so  loudly condemn in other religions is silently condoned- and excused- within their own.

A perfect example of this is the Christian ministry known as "Saints Alive." This ministry, founded by Ed Decker, specializes is skewering the Christian offshoot religion commonly known as Mormonism, which was founded by Joseph Smith back in the 1830's. It seems that Rev. Ed is upset that the Mormons have been making false prophecies. "How dare they! That's our gig!" (Just kidding.) But it does seems that when other false prophets make false prophecies, the Christian scholars conveniently  "remember" how to use a dictionary. What Ed Decker doesn't seem to notice, though, is that the Mormons are repeating, almost word for word, the same catch phrases and slogans found within the New Testament!

This information in the far right column is from the online book:  "And It Didn't Come To Pass: A Shocking Look At The So-Called Prophecies of Joseph Smith" by Ed Decker and William Schnoebelen.  It may be found at the following WEB site:

New Testament Prophecy

Mormon Prophecy

Saints Alive Web Page

Jesus Christ:  1st Century

All these things (end of world, Second Coming, Judgment Day) would happen within that generation, "before the people now living [33 AD] have all died." (Mt 24:34 TEV [#14] )

Joseph Smith: 1800's

A certain temple would be built by the "generation then living" and "during that generation" (para. 2)

Ed Decker:  1991 AD

"Allowing the widest possible latitude of 100 years for a generation, that still leaves the prophecy unfilled…" (para. 2)

"No one is now left alive from that generation… That generation has passed by before the end of the 19th century." (para. 30)

New Testament: 1st Century

The Lord is near—He is coming soon.

He is about to be judging the inhabited earth in righteousness by the Man…

(Phil. 4:5  Amp. [#9]  & Acts 17:30, 31 CLNT [#4] )

Joseph Smith: 1832 AD

Some Old Testament prophecies were "about to be fulfilled" and were "soon to be" fulfilled.

(para. 4)

Ed Decker:  1991 AD

"More than 165 years have passed…Joseph Smith sure got [his] dates wrong!"  (para. 4)

New Testament: 1st Century

"So you also, when you see all these signs, may be sure that He is near--at your very door.." (Matthew 24:33  NAS [#1] )

Joseph Smith: 1832 AD

"The… dreadful day of the Lord is near, even at the doors."

(para. 14)

Ed Decker:  1991 AD

"Over 150 years have passed, and that "dreadful day of the Lord" has not come. Another failed prophecy!" (para. 14)

New Testament: 1st Century

And this do, knowing the time, that it is already the hour

(Romans 13:11 NAS [#1] )

Joseph Smith: 1832 AD

"Prepare ye the way of the Lord… for the hour of his coming is nigh."  (para. 28)

Ed Decker:  1991 AD

"This prophecy was given nearly 160 years ago, and has still not occurred. That is stretching the meaning of the word 'nigh' to the breaking point!" (para. 28)

"And reasonable reading of the words 'nigh' and 'soon' would indicate Smith was prophesying the coming of the Lord in his lifetime." (para. 48)

New Testament: 1st Century

"…there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the  Son of Man   coming  in His kingdom."

(Matthew 16:28 NAS (#1) ]

Joseph Smith: 1832 AD

"Were I to prophesy, I would say the end [of the world] would come… in forty years. There are those of the rising generation who shall not taste death till Christ comes." (para. 41)

Ed Decker:  1991 AD

"Obviously, none of the "rising generation" ever saw Jesus' coming… A century has passed since that date; and Smith's prophecy lies dead and buried along with that 'rising generation.'" (para. 41)

"Another blatantly false prophecy!" (para. 46)

Anti-Mormon's who criticize Joseph Smith for having said the same thing their own Jesus said... reminds me of an old saying:

Christians, Practice What You Preach: Stop Being Hypocrites

You are not to be as the hypocrites… (Matthew 6:5  NAS)

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites… (Matthew 23:13, 14, 15, 23, 25, 27, 29  NAS)

You hypocrites!  (Matthew 15:7; 22:18; Luke 12:56; 13:15  NAS)

You, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery?

(Romans 2: 21, 22  NIV )

*********************

You hypocrites- you condemn as false the “prophet” Joseph Smith when all he’s done is repeat verbatim what the “prophet” Jesus prophesied. Don’t you know that when you condemn Joe, you’ve also condemned Jesus???

You rail against false prophecy in other religions, yet turn a blind eye toward  it within your own.

Hypocrites!
