History Written by The Victors
History is written by the victors. That being the case, imagine for a moment if
Nazi Germany had been the victors of World War Two, and thus had written the
history books that we in The United States grew up with. Our perceptions of
Adolph Hitler would be vastly different than they are now. Hitler would come
across as a good guy, while Roosevelt would be the villain. A history of that
war, written by Nazis, would be vastly different than one written by who really
won the war.
Christians admit to this principle in real life, yet they turn
around and claim that somehow their own history, compiled and edited
entirely by one Christian sect out of several- the sect that won that
ancient ecclesiastical war- this text compiled by the victors of that
pissing contest is somehow pristine and pure as the driven snow. Face
it: if the Gnostics, or the Montanists, or the Arians, or the Ebionites or
the party of James had won the power struggle, the resultant "New Testament"
would have looked radically different, and modern Christians would just as
arrogantly as they do now, assume that the New Testament they hold in their
hands is the way that "God" intended it to be. Ignorance really is bliss
sometimes, at least when it comes to religion.
Free
Speech The only way the victors of any
power struggle could even hope to write an objective and accurate account of
the history that made them the victors, is if that society practiced free
speech. That is why America has been able to write histories of our world
conflicts that are of a higher quality than those written by communist
Russia or China or North Korea or Iraq. State controlled historians just
don't have the liberty to tell the full truth. The fact that ancient
Christianity did NOT practice free speech is therefore
evidence enough that their official history (i.e. The New Testament) should
be as trustworthy as history written by communists or any other form of
dictatorship. The ancient Christians of the Roman Empire practiced book
burnings and campaigns against books that would shock most Americans. At one
point, the mere possession of a book on the Christian shit list would
automatically result in the death penalty for the owner of the book. Given
this repressive atmosphere, this hatred of free speech, how in hell could an
objective and accurate history ever be written???
Liberal -vs- Conservative Even within the same
denomination, one group of Christians would never trust the other to write
an objective, fair history. Would liberal Catholics / Baptists
/ Mormons trust ultra conservative Catholics / Baptists / Mormons to
write the official history of their denomination? We all know the answer:
hell no!!!! Many Christians would not trust other Christians for even the
time of day. This being the case, it should be obvious that the ancient
Catholic Christians who edited the New Testament should be granted little
trust by the Protestant Christians of today.
A Culture
of Deceit The vast majority of histories and
revelations written before the New Testament was compiled were judged to be
bogus and fraudulent by the ancient Christians themselves. There was no
shortage of fiction parading as fact- if anything, the fiction outnumbered
the fact. The stack of books that didn't make it into the New
Testament vastly outnumbers the stack of books that did. So
given the atmosphere of frauds and fraudulent history which bred all these
so-called apocryphal writings, it would be unlikely that any really accurate
histories could ever have been written. When all the ancient historians,
while writing their histories, were swimming in a brown shitty cesspool of
deceit, it is unlikely anything "pure as the driven snow" would emerge. The
best that could be hoped for would be some that contain less errors than
others. Respect for the truth and an accurate account of history were not
high on the priority list.
Conclusion
The gospel was preached to convert people. Period. It was never meant to be
an objective non-biased history. Given the general lack of integrity and
trust among the early (and current) Christians for their fellow Christians,
there are ample reasons to suspect the New Testament is less than perfect.
